Charles Barkley on why Michael Jordan doesn’t like him anymore

Charles Barkley was always one of Michael Jordan‘s most significant rivals with whom we even met in the 1993 NBA finals. Even though he won that series when Barkley was the MVP, some people actually thought he was better than Michael but never had the same supporting cast as Michael. They came to the league the same year, and even though they were rivals on the basketball court, both of them were close friends in their private lives until that relationship cooled off a couple of years ago.

After his playing career was over, Barkley started working as an NBA analyst on TNT and, on several occasions, spoke about Jordan and the way he is running the Hornets. Barkley thought Jordan was not doing good as an owner a couple of years ago when Charlotte Hornets had one of the worst records in NBA history and were a team none of the biggest stars wanted to play for.

In an interview with Graham Besinger, Barkley said it’s his job to report honestly to his viewers how we see certain things, no matter if this means criticizing Michael Jordan himself. Barkley believes being honest is the best way forward and is positive; he will eventually repair his relationship with Jordan.

“I think that Michael was upset about something I said about the Bobcats that were obviously true. First of all, he is doing a much better job. A couple of years ago they had one of the worst records in NBA history and Michael didn’t do a great job. I always loved him as a brother but I will do my job first and foremost. I am not going to get on tv and being dishonest to people. They know when you are being dishonest and disingenuous. I am going to do my job.”

Barkley and Jordan are still not speaking with each other, and it seems because they are both stubborn, their relationship won’t improve. According to Barkley, Jordan surrounded himself with people who are not honest, especially when he is doing something wrong. On the other hand, Barkley is not afraid to speak his mind, and apparently, this doesn’t sit well with Jordan.

“The thing that bothered me the most about that whole thing, I don’t think I said anything that bad. Because I’m pretty sure I said as much as I love Michael until he stops hiring them kiss-asses and his best friends, he’s never going to be successful as a general manager. I remember, I pretty much verbatim said that. The thing that has pissed me off about it later is Phil Jackson said the exact same thing.”
