Heading into the new NBA season, there are many discussions about the changes teams made so far on their respective rosters. While some were more active than the others, a few teams are on everyone’s lookout going into the upcoming season. Charles Barkley made a guest appearance on the Dan Patrick Show, where he talked about the two teams that he believes made the most significant improvements for the 2020/2021 season.
Barkley has always been a big fan of Portland Blazers for quite some time now and hopes the team can make another push in the western conference. He likes that they kept the majority of their core while adding some critical pieces to the team. Barkley loves the idea of having Enes Kanter on that team because of his ability to rebound and score and never understood why teams traded him so much in his career.
I’ll tell you the team that I really like what they did are the Portland Trailblazers. They got some really nice additions, but they need to get everybody healthy. They didn’t have Rodney Hood last year and one of my favorite players, Zach Collins who I think will going to be a stud. I love the addition of Enes Kanter. I never understand why people trade Enes Kanter. He is one of my favorite players in the league.Charles Barkley, via Dan Patrick Show
Barkley wouldn’t be the Barkley we know if he didn’t criticize someone, and this time it was the analytics guys he considers to be people without real knowledge about the game. He even went that far by saying most of them are hired because of their ties with the owners rather than their basketball competencies.
You got these guys that don’t know anything about basketball. They call it analytics. They just want to hire their son-in-law; that is what they did. All these owners hire their sons-in-law who married their pretty daughters, and these guys don’t know anything about basketball. You give me a guy that can score and rebound; he can play on my team anytime.
The second team that did a good job this offseason, according to Barkley, were the Lakers who signed younger players and made apparent improvements. Having LeBron and Davis on the same team guarantees success, and Barkley thinks you could find pretty much anyone to play alongside them, and you’ll still compete for a championship.
But all that stuff is irrelevant when you have LeBron and AD. As you see, you can get five guys from the street, and they have guys that can really play.Charles Barkley, via Dan Patrick Show
