Charles Barkley doesn’t believe in the Brooklyn Nets success: ‘To me, that is a hell no’

The Brooklyn Nets solidified their status as one of the biggest championship contenders after acquiring James Harden from the Rockets. With the assumption, Kyrie Irving will be back and Kevin Durant, who is playing like a real MVP so far this season, on top of adding Harden, the Nets have excellent chances of making it to the NBA finals. Even though most NBA fans and analysts think the Nets are now even a leading contender for a championship, Charles Barkley is one of those people who is not sold on the Nets and their immediate success.

During the show ‘Inside the NBA,’ Barkley said he doesn’t believe in the Nets because of Irving’s and Harden’s inability to adapt and accept lesser roles on the team. According to Barkley, Durant is the only one who knows how to play in that system because of his past experience with the Warriors. Barkley even described Harden and Irving as selfish, which will be the main stepping stone in the Nets’ success.

I don’t think it’s even close to guarantee. Only one of those three guys has proven to me he is unselfish, and not a me guy is KD. KD went to Golden State, and he sacrificed. James Harden and Kyrie Irving have never shown me ‘I just want to win, and that is the most important thing’. KD is unselfish, and the other two guys proved they only care about their numbers. I don’t think they will make the sacrifice. They are going to get less shots, so will those two guys say, ‘I’m going to play hard, play defense and not worry about my individual numbers’. To me, that is a hell no.

It’s still not familiar when Irving will be back, even though the Nets management shared information that indicate he will no longer miss games. His behavior has presented quite a problem for the Nets, and Barkley thinks he is a wild card and a poor leader.

I think they are sick of Kyrie already and made the James Harden trade because they can’t count on Kyrie. A wild card is an understatement, and Kyrie has not proven he can be trusted as a leader. When he was asked to be a leader in Cleveland before LeBron, we could say that was a failure. When he was asked to be a leader in Boston, we could that was a failure.

This season is a championship or bust for the Nets, and unfortunately, we’ve seen multiple times in NBA history teams with a lot of talent that couldn’t make it work. Whether that will happen for the Nets remains to be seen. In his debut for the Nets last night, James Harden had a triple-double show and showed great chemistry with Durant. It will be interesting what it will look like when Irving joins the squad, but if they can make it work and built chemistry, the entire NBA is in a lot of trouble.
