Charles Barkley delivered an important message for athletes using medicinal Cannabis

Charles Barkley is one of the most straightforward celebrities who are not afraid to share what he truly means about a particular subject. In one of his recent public appearances at the event before the All-Star weekend, Barkley touched upon using Cannabis for medical purposes. He also stressed out the fact some people and players are already abusing it, which afterward becomes a problem for a lot of families and society in general.

Barkley said he tried Cannabis several times in his life and that he is not a big fan. He also delivered a great message about whether the plant is used for the right reasons or people abuse it, which in his mind makes them a “druggie.”

“I’ve had pot like five times. It just makes me want potato chips. If you’re going to use Cannabis – I must be getting old to say Cannabis – I hope you’re doing it for the right reason, not because you’re a druggie.”

Apart from recreational use, Cannabis is now used in various medicinal purposes, which raised awareness among people about it’s benefits. Barkley is also aware of this and even knows some people that used Cannabis for these purposes. On the other hand, because of the tragedy in his family with drugs, Barkley is firm on the fact people shouldn’t abuse it any way, shape, or form.

“If you’re using pot to heal your body and things like that, I guess I can accept it. But I don’t want guys just smoking pot because they like to smoke pot.” “I m very sensitive to the subject. I had a brother who died young who was a junkie, so drugs are a real serious issue to me.”

Players nowadays are more openminded to the use of Cannabis than before, and there were even some reports stating that over 70% of players use it for both recreational and medicinal purposes. The NBA as a league is still not there yet when it comes to policies that would loosen the rules a bit for players using Cannabis as the MLB did just recently. League commissioner Adam Silver talked about it a few times, but it will be a longer process than everyone initially expected.
