After having a surprisingly good season with the Portland Trailblazers, Carmelo Anthony played in his last NBA game this season. In efforts to potentially upset the Los Angeles Lakers, the Blazers fell short in a playoff series that ended 4-1- in favor of the Lakers. Still, the future looks bright for the Blazers, and Anthony hopes to be a part of that story in the upcoming season.
In an interview after the last night’s game in which he scored 27 points, and showed glimpses of his former self, Carmelo talked about his future and everything he achieved this season. After becoming a free agent and not getting a lot of interest from teams, the Blazers decided to gamble on the experienced veteran, and it seems signing Carmelo was the right thing to do.
Carmelo expressed his gratitude that he could participate in another playoff series and show to the world he can still be a productive player in a team aiming for a championship. In his mind, there is no question that he wants to stay with the Blazers if the opportunity presents itself and feels like he became a part of a team that has a lot of potential for winning a championship.
I pray it can be Portland. Honestly, I think I found a home in Portland. I got comfortable with the organization, I got comfortable with the guys on the team, and they got comfortable with me. At this point in my career, I do think that is the best fit for me especially having this experience now, getting my feet wet, and just coming in and being who I am by staying true to myself. I really hope that it can be Portland at the end of the day where we give ourselves a chance to keep this team together, get the guys healthy, and get another run at it.Carmelo Anthony
At the age of 35, Carmelo averaged over 15 points per game for the Blazers, providing them much needed scoring and experience. The Blazers have a great core of young talent in their team, which means signing someone like Carmelo for another year would be a great move by the franchise that is desperately looking to take the next step in their quest to win an NBA championship.
