Mr. Big Fundemental stayed loyal to the city of San Antonio for the entirety of his career and is now awarded for it. During his 19 seasons in the league, Timmy averaged 19 points and 10.8 rebounds, enough to enter NBA’s top 15 in three statistical categories — points, rebounds, and blocks. He’ll go down as one of the best and most versatile big men in NBA history.
The Spurs organization announced in a press release today that Tim Duncan will be joining the coaching staff as an assistant coach. Remarkable move if you ask me. Having an iconic Spurs figure like Duncan as part of the coaching staff in San Antonio makes the team even more appealing to potential talent.
The 15-time All-Star and 5-time NBA champion will be a great addition to the staff and an extraordinary mentor for the young big men like Jacob Poetl, Luka Samanic, and Trey Lyles. Imagine being mentored by a legend like Timothy Theodore Duncan!
Here’s what Gregg Popovich had to say about the new addition to his coaching staff:
It is only fitting, that after I served loyally for 19 years as Tim Duncan’s assistant, that he returns the favor.
