Boston Celtics to replace Kemba Walker with Collin Sexton?

The Boston Celtics are looking to bounce back from a disappointing season. The team traded Kemba Walker to the Oklahoma City Thunder, and are looking for a starting point guard. Rumor has it after Kyrie Irving, they could reach for another Cavalier for the PG position.

Sexton to Celtics involves a lot of picks

To land Colin Sexton, Boston would have to surrender several draft picks. According to a report published by Fanside, the Cavs would receive Aaron Nesmith, Grant Williams, and a couple of future draft pick. Ever since LeBron James left the Cavaliers, the team has been stuck in rebuilding mode. If Kevin Love gets traded, they should also pull the trigger on a Sexton deal.

At 22 years old, Sexton averaged 24 points this season. The other players who put up similar numbers before their 23rd birthday? Trae Young and Devin Booker. If this is a clear indication of what Sexton can do in the future, whichever team gets him should consider themselves lucky.

Colin’s attitude problem preventing teams from signing him?

During this season, there were rumors about the point guard’s relationship with his teammates. In March, Sexton allegedly liked a tweet criticizing Kevin Love’s massive contract in Cleveland. Colin may have had legitimate reasons for liking the social media post given that Kevin has not played significant minutes after signing a big extension deal with the Cavaliers. Still, situations like that one could build his reputation as a locker room distraction. What Sexton needs is a team that can entrust him the keys to the franchise.

In Boston, he would have to learn to balance between distributing the ball and scoring. The offense would still revolve around Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. By getting Sexton, the Celts would address the “your turn-my turn” offense Tatum and Brown have, unfortunately, developed this year. Another benefit of trading for Sexton is his age – he would form a young core with Brown (24) and Tatum (23).

Boston is a proud franchise. If they want to get the most out of Brown and Tatum entering their primes, they need to support their stars as soon as possible. Getting Colin Sexton for the trade package speculated could be an important move in that direction.
