Barkley pledges $1 million to Tuskegee University

He isn’t just vocal about it. Charles Barkley gets involved with the stuff he believes in, and he chooses to fight the battles he sees are worth a fight. And for all the times his statements have been labeled as controversial, Barkley’s involvement with the black communities continues to be his go-to philanthropy domain. This time was no different.

Chuck has pledged $1 million to Tuskegee University – a private, state-related, and nationally ranked land-grant institution that serves a racially, ethnically, and religiously diverse student body of 3,000-plus students. The institution was founded in 1881 by Booker T. Washington and is one of the nation’s historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs).

This marks Barkley’s fifth major donation to a historically black college. It started in ’16 when Barkley pledged the same amount to both Alabama A&M in Huntsville and Clark Atlanta University. He continued giving back to HBCU’s after making another $1 million donation in ’17 to Morehouse College in Atlanta. Earlier this year, a Hall of Famer pledged the same amount to Miles College.

We are excited to learn that Mr. Barkley made it a priority to support Tuskegee University. His philanthropy will play a crucial role in advancing the university’s strategic goals.

Chuck chose to support Tuskegee University through Capital One’s The Match: Champions for Change presented by Turner Sports. The premier golf event ‘seeks to raise awareness about HBCUs and their illustrious programs and will air on Turner Network Television (TNT), Friday, Nov. 27, at 3 p.m. ET with exclusive content available on Bleacher Report.’

Thus the relationship between Chuck and Tuskegee University, which started with an ‘Evening with Charles Barkley‘ in ’08, continues. That event acknowledged the accomplishments of the student-athletes of the university. With Barkley’s $1 million pledge, the NBA icon hopes for the same in the future.
