In the last night’s game 2 of the NBA finals, the biggest star in the arena weren’t even players like Steph Curry, Kevin Durant, Kawhi Leonard or even the rapper Drake. The former president of the United States, Barack Obama was in attendance and definitely brought a lot of crowd to their feet by simply appearing among the fans.
Barack Obama is known as an avid Chicago Bulls fan, but most importantly a true basketball fan. Even during his role as a president of the country, he attended some NBA games and often hosted teams that won a championship in the White House.
During his visit to last night’s game, he said his last visit to a finals game was back in 1996 when Chicago Bulls faced off against the Seattle Supersonics. Obama said that he will remember those finals because he believes Gary Payton was able to slow down Michael Jordan and make him shot low percentage shots. The former president also made a joke about how that series which is considered to be one of the worst in Jordan’s career reminds him of Kobe in terms of the bad shot selection Jordan was having.
“The last time I was in the finals, Michael Jordan was playing Gary Payton. I was actually telling some young people and I said Payton actually was one of those guys who could guard Jordan You look at Michael’s percentage in the finals, he got the point, but he took a lot of shots. He looked more Kobe-esque in those terms. It was true.”
