John Jefferson Tan

John Jefferson Tan graduated BS Marketing and Corporate Communications at San Beda College (now San Beda University).

After years of working in the corporate world, John embarked on a home-based career and started as a freelance ghostwriter for private clients. In 2016, he entered sports writing and worked as a news writer for the now-defunct HoFmag.com and the sports section of Gamenguide.

A year later, John took a break from sports writing after a greener offer came, and he went on to manage various overseas retail brands' online departments.

In 2019, John returned to sports writing and joined International Business Times, where his byline name was changed to the alias "Gustav Garcia" after he became part of Clutchpoints in 2021.

In 2022, John trimmed down the various sports he covered and focused on combat sports and basketball. He left Clutchpoints and IBTimes for Sportskeeda Combat, MiddleEasy MMA, and an NBA analysis contributor job at Sportsnaut.

Finally, in April 2022, John became part of Basketball Network. At BN, John found a perfect platform for what he is most fond of – covering a wide range of old-school and off-the-court NBA stories.

Discovering rare and unfathomed old-school topics is in John's DNA. Admittedly, he has a knack for capturing the interests of the old-timers, and it has become his passion to deliver those stories to them through BN.

John's favorite team is the New York Knicks, primarily because of their infamous 1990s era. His favorite player is Allen Iverson, although he always rooted for the Shaq-less Kobe Bryant.
