We all know him for his antics, gun waiving in the locker room, and mentoring Nick Young, but Gilbert Arenas understands the game of basketball. Agent Zero wasn’t good for 30 at his peak just because of his talent, there’s knowledge there. He tried to warn us before the playoffs.
“I always said Lakers from the beginning. The reason I said Lakers is because they actually know their roles. Everyone’s bought into their role. I don’t know if the Clippers bought into their roles.”Gilbert Arenas, Fubo Sports
This is something coaches talk about all the time. Accept your role, and be the best you can be within that role. It may not be what you envisioned for yourself but still, give 100%. Last year’s Clippers were the perfect example of that.
“Do we know who gets the ball for the last shot? Is it Lou Williams or is it Kawhi? That’s gonna happen.”Gilbert Arenas, Fubo Sports
The Clippers’ instinct would be to go to Lou Will, not only because he’s done it for them on many occasions, but because he’s done it throughout his career. On the other hand, Kawhi is a two-time Finals MVP. Throughout the year, Bill Simmons kept talking about eagerly waiting for the Clippers to go on a 10 game run. Just dominate for a few weeks, find their mojo, and answers to all these questions. Arenas talked about the same thing.
“So far, the media’s with the Clippers, but the Clippers didn’t show any dominance this year. Seven game winning streak was their win streak. They’ve lost to every single team besides, I think, the New York Knicks. I think that’s the only bottom team they didn’t lose to.”Gilbert Arenas, Fubo Sports
Gil isn’t 100% correct here – for instance, the Clippers won both games against the Cavaliers. But his point stands, they lost to almost every team in the league at least once. A team that’s playing together for the first time should’ve had a bit more urgency to learn to play together.
This summer is make or break time. Either they come out of this stronger, or next year will be “Draymond yelling at KD during timeout” all over again.
