Alonzo Mourning confirmed — “who wants to sex Mutombo” story is true

It’s not often that myths become a reality. But thanks to Alonzo Mourning, the one about arguably the greatest pick-up line ever might be true after all.

“Who wants to sex Mutombo”

For years, a rumor has swirled around that Dikembe Mutombo used to walk into clubs and shout “who wants to sex Mutombo” to pick up girls. This was his go-to while at Georgetown, right after he moved to the United States to enroll in college.

Mutombo himself has downplayed this rumor for years, most recently during his appearance on Highly Questionable. “Let me give you something,” Deke said while wagging his finger, denying the story. “I always say, ‘who came up with that crap?'”

When you get to the top, there’s always somebody trying to come up with some funny thing — maybe you took all the girls away from him when he was in college, or you did get all the attention when you was walking in the club — those things you hear from the guys. It’s a great story, but it didn’t happen.

Dikembe Mutombo, Highly Questionable

Alonzo Mourning confirms the story

The rumor has become a running joke among those close to Mutombo. But no one ever addressed its veracity. So when Dikembe himself publicly refuted the story, the hopes of millions were dashed.

Then, a year after Mutombo’s appearance on Highly Questionable, Alonzo Mourning, a former teammate of his at Georgetown, joined the same show and confirmed what everyone hoped was the truth — the “who wants to sex Mutombo” story is true.

There’s some truth to that. There’s some truth to that.

Alonzo Mourning, Hiqhly Questionable

Zo confirmed “who wants to sex Mutombo” was indeed Dikembe’s pick-up line in college. And according to the Hall of Fame big, it worked. Mutombo, however, is yet to admit it publicly. But Mourning’s interview with Dan Le Batard and Bomani Jones is all the confirmation NBA fans need.

All that’s left is for someone to persuade Deke to yell it one more time in front of the cameras. Now that would be something.
